Description:
Revelation is a program designed specifically to address the needs of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 20 who have substance abuse and mental health issues. The Revelation Dual Diagnosis Program is an after school program for adolescents who are experiencing both substance abuse and mental health disorders. Each client has a treatment team that may consist of an individual therapist, family therapist, case manager, substance abuse counselor, psychiatrist, family preservation worker and other applicable personnel to provide an array of specialized services such as family case management, family therapy, psychiatric care, as well as individual/group therapy. Dually funded by ADPA and DMH, Revelation is a comprehensive, non-residential adolescent program that provides prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery and mental health services designed to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors associated with future substance abuse of adolescents between 12 and 20. The program occurs during weekday afternoons for three hours and consists of individual, group, and family therapy, psycho-education, case management, academic services, substance abuse reduction and the successful completion of probation/DCFS requirements as needed. Though the program accepts walk-ins as well as referrals, the program works closely with DCFS and the L.A. County Department of Probation to help clients successfully complete their programs. In addition to clients receiving HIV/AIDS education to promote awareness and prevention, the program also offers afterschool tutoring in order to assist clients in maintaining good school functioning and to equip clients in passing the CAHSEE exams. To deter further substance abuse, clients are given random weekly monitored urinalysis drug testing. In addition to both individual and family therapeutic services, psychiatric services are available when applicable.
