Description:
When an individual makes the decision to end alcohol and/or other drug use, a common concern is, "How will I handle the withdrawal symptoms?" Prolonged alcohol and other drug use frequently results in physical dependence on the substance used, and when a person ceases using the substance, the body experiences symptoms of withdrawal, or "detoxification." Some people experience little discomfort during the detoxification process. For others, withdrawal requires supervision by a trained professional in a safe and supportive environment where they can be monitored and assisted when needed. Home of New Vision's Detoxification Program provides non-medical (sub-acute or social) detoxification in a safe, home-like environment for men and women ages 18 and over. The program offers a combination of supportive care, monitoring, assessment, and linkage to aftercare services. The Detoxification Program provides initial substance use assessment while monitoring the client for withdrawal symptoms and side effects. Clients generally remain in the program for three to five days, during which they are evaluated by a medical team, and may attend therapy groups and community support meetings. Individuals who complete the detoxification process may be transitioned to Home of New Vision's Residential Treatment Program in order to continue their progress towards recovery.
