Description:
The Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP), is located at the Schofield Barracks Health Clinic on the first floor of building 673. The ASAP provides a treatment format based on the American Society of Addictions Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria, along with the Joint Commission Association of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) standards to ensure the quality of all services provided. This format stresses comprehensive multidisciplinary assessments and individualized variable treatment planning and programming, with emphasis on the least restrictive treatment setting. It is a multimodal approach consisting of psycho-education, training, and individual/ group counseling, with a special emphasis placed on involving those in rehabilitation in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous/ Narcotics Anonymous. Since alcoholism/ substance addictions are diseases that affect body, mind, soul, and spirit - treatment is organized to restore functioning in all these areas. Pharmacological treatment adjuncts such as Antabuse (disulfiram) and Revia (Naltrexone) may also be recommended to promote continued abstinence from alcohol/ substances. Family member support is essential for recovery, and family member participation is highly encouraged. Aftercare in the form of weekly group counseling and periodic evaluation is provided to complete the recovery process for periods up to one year.
