Description:
In 1990 RRR became involved in a most needed treatment modality, residential recovery for women with dependent children, and “Our House†was established. The responsibility to provide these services included providing healthy age appropriate childcare while “Mom†is involved in her daily treatment routine which in turn will include positive interaction with her children. For the substance-using mother, the birth of a drug exposed infant is both a crisis and an opportunity. The mother, and in many cases the father often feel an overwhelming sense of guilt about the newborn’s condition. The “Our House†project intends to continue to relieve the pain and remorse for mothers who have chosen this path. Through substance abuse treatment, comprehensive health care services, HIV/AIDS programs, case management, and supportive housing and continuing care the project will serve perinatal moms and will also continue to serve postpartum women and mothers with dependent children (12 and under). The focus of treatment is for Riverside County, but the program accepts referrals from other California Counties as well as nation wide referrals where practical. The goal of “Our House†is to provide prevention, education and rehabilitation to pregnant and postpartum women and women with dependent children, utilizing social model residential recovery techniques. The project provides meaningful and relevant results in the lives of each woman who successfully completes the program, and in turn the project empowers these women to become exemplary role models for their children, their families and their communities, thus benefiting society as a whole. RRR is determined to offer a new life to mothers and their families, with the focus on traditionally underserved populations, including low-income mothers, single mothers, young mothers and mothers living in rural areas. The goal of Riverside Recovery Resources is to end the suffering of children, mothers and families caused by the diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction. We believe that in helping pregnant women, women in postpartum and/or current mothers with dependent children, we can make a difference in their lives, the lives of their families and the communities in which they live. Our House is a unique part of Riverside Recovery Resources. It was established to meet the needs of the alcoholic mother and her dependent children, providing a place where they can live while rebuilding their lives. Our facility and staff provide a warm, supportive, home-like atmosphere for the mother and child. Each woman is assisted in the development of an individual program of recovery, which will include alcohol education, individual counseling sessions, self-help groups, planned recreational activities, and vocational guidance. Her children also receive alcohol education, counseling, and are instructed in structured playgroups and other necessary requirements. (Elementary school within walking distance)
