Details: The Milestone detoxification program provides a safe and medically supervised transition through the acute phase of withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs to men and women struggling with substance use issues. Maine residents are admitted regardless of their financial situation. The program is staffed by nurses and CNA’s 24-hours per day and overseen by a physician. Substance use counselors are available for education, intervention, case management, individual and group counseling, family counseling, and referral management. Lengths of stay vary according to the needs of the client and the time required for the successful completion of the detoxification process. Medical management allows for those individuals with co-occurring diagnoses to receive concurrent treatment for mental health issues. Milestone follows the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s “Patient Placement Criteria†for admission, continuing stay, and discharge criteria. Individuals completing the detoxification program may be referred to the Milestone Residential Treatment Program or other community-based aftercare treatment.
