Details: Baker Places, Inc. is committed to providing a comprehensive array of high quality services to adults with mental health, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS related issues. The agency is dedicated to assisting individuals in learning and regaining the skills to live their lives fully and productively in the community. This social rehabilitation approach guides and unifies all Baker Places' programs. Services are aimed at being accessible, flexible, consumer driven, and culturally competent. Baker Places, Inc. was founded in 1964 with seed money from Glide Methodist Church, to assist people who were reentering the community after long term institutional care. Our first site is located at 730 Baker Street, and explains the origin of our name. In 1969 Baker Places, Inc. incorporated as a tax exempt nonprofit corporation. Baker Places, Inc. has contracts with the City and County of San Francisco through the Department of Public Health and is also the recipient of other major Federal grants, including Ryan White CARE funds.
