Details: The Biedenharn Family Program, also known as the Family Success Institute, is a medium-intensity residential program (ASAM III.3) that provides residential substance abuse treatment services for adult women who are pregnant and adult women with children up to 12 years of age. The facility is located at 1525 Fullilove Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana, 71112 and is contracted to accommodate seven women and seven children. A minimum of one bed is available for the treatment of pregnant women. It provides a safe and positive atmosphere for addicted adult women of any ethnicity. This program receives referrals from the entire state of Louisiana. The program is staffed to provide services 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The goal of this program is to provide structured, supervised, residential living services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using treatment models which are research-based and outcome-oriented for individuals with addictive disorders who need to continue the process of physical, mental and emotional rehabilitation. The average length of stay is three months and is determined by a client’s progress through a graduated phase system. Women who are in the transitional phase of treatment are employed or attend school. These clients will attend at least three therapy or educational groups per week and one individual session per week. A client’s ability to transition back into society typically requires three months of residential treatment. The children of clients participate in a series of children’s therapy groups twice a week based on their Infant/Child’s Psychosocial Evaluation. Children’s therapy group topics include conflict resolution, communication skills, anger management, art and play therapy, and family relationship skills. All school-aged children are enrolled in school, including children eligible to attend the Head Start program. The children also receive individual counseling. Clinical eligibility criteria for admission shall include adult pregnant females, or females with children less than 12 years of age, who are not actively withdrawing from alcohol and/or other drugs but who require residential treatment. Clinical exclusion criteria for admission shall include, but not limited to, urgent or critical behavioral, psychiatric, medical or physical problems or needs beyond the scope of CADA services and individuals who pose a risk of harming themselves or others. If an individual is found to be ineligible for services, she shall be informed of the reason for ineligibility. Recommendations for alternative services and referral sources shall be provided. State funding for clients in the Family Success Institute is provided by the Louisiana Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program.
