Details: Ho‘omau Ke Ola’s highest level of care is found in its residential treatment program, which offers structured programming from wake up to lights out. This level of care offers residents a safe, stable, serene, and distraction-free environment in which to begin their road to recovery. Time spent in this environment is filled with both Western Best Practice curriculum and Cultural curriculum. Western curriculum include: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, social skills training, 12-step familiarization classes, smoking cessation classes, health and nutrition classes, physical recreation opportunities, gender specific process groups, cinema therapy, financial literacy and several other living skills classes. We have three counselors trained to provide the cognitive behavioral intervention for criminogenic behavior recommended by the Interagency Council on Intermediate Sanctions (ICIS). Cultural curriculum offered at HKO include: kūkulu kumuhana (statement of purpose), moʻokuaauhau (geneology), ʻoli (chanting), ka huakaʻi (migration), moʻolelo (storytelling), ʻike hana lima (craftmanship), paʻani kahiko (ancient games), hoe ka waʻa (canoe Ppaddling), hula basics to teach precision, self-discipline, perseverance, and spiritual connection, ohana day, mālama ʻāina in the loi, and Native Hawaiian crafting. A client’s length of stay is determined by their progression through levels of awareness, acceptance, willingness, and commitment. Average length of stay is two (2) months. Parties Responsible for Residential Program include State Department of Health-Alcohol and Drug Addiction Division, HUD (Housing and Urban Development) homeless grant through the City and County of Honolulu, and Family Drug Court and Hawai‘i Judiciary’s Adult Client Services, as well as any self-pay consumers.
