Details: Because addiction is chronic, it does not get better on its own. It will keep happening until the addict not only stops using the substance, but re-learns how to live. Because addiction is progressive, it gets worse over time. Most often, by the time the person finally seeks treatment, he or she is addicted to more than one substance or behavior.
