Details: Our compassionate care and family counseling help teens launch healthy and substance-free lives. Established in 1994, Phoenix House Academy in Los Angeles is an evidence-based residential treatment program for 110 youth ages 13-18 affected by co-occurring substance abuse and/or mental health disorders. Residents attend a fully-accredited on-site high school while receiving comprehensive treatment services, including: individual and group counseling (mental health, substance abuse, trauma, and anger management); family therapy (parent education, group counseling); art and music therapy; cultural and recreational activities; and a broad range of life skills training. The Academy’s extensive grounds feature two-person bedrooms, classrooms, sports facilities, gyms, a computer lab, and a fully-equipped professional music studio – home to the Phoenix Rising Music Program. Phoenix House Academy’s Outpatient Services offer outpatient and intensive outpatient day treatment to teens ages 13-20 who struggle with substance-use-related disorders. Services include individual and group counseling: mental health counseling; case management; educational workshops; family services; and sober recreational opportunities. Evidence-based substance abuse and mental health treatment techniques are used to address such issues as trauma, depression, anger management, and behavioral disorders. Youth and family counseling is also available in the community in local high schools. Drug and Alcohol Prevention Services are provided in schools and communities of north-east San Fernando Valley. In 2008, Phoenix House Academy received the designation of “evidence-based practice” by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s (SAMHSA) and was placed on the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. The Academy is licensed by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. It is fully accredited to provide treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders by the California Alliance of Child and Family Services and by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
