Description: People's Community Services is proud to offer the Strengthening Families Program. This is one of the most powerful programs for family change in the country because it involves not just parents or children alone, but the whole family. Parents are taught effective ways to help their children manage stress, set limits, solve behavior problems, and how to improve family relations through family meetings. Children ages 7 to 17 are given trainings on initiating conversations to ask for help, problem solving skills, recognizing their feelings, coping with anger, dealing with criticism, and how to say NO to peer pressure and staying out of trouble. Families are brought together to practice the skills they have learned separately so that discipline skills can be effectively implemented while families build trust and cohesion. When funds allow, parents completing the program are eligible to attend an expense-paid overnight retreat at a beautiful Detroit area Hotel to celebrate & reflect on skills learned. Prizes, meals, and family friendly entertainment are provided.
