To enter the program, each applicant is required to have a minimum of 30 days sobriety. Typically men come from a 30-day counseling support service (a CSS) or a transitional support service (TSS). Prior to the CSS/TSS they would have gone through a detox. The Bridge House is neither a detox nor a CSS facility. The Bridge House offers eight one-hour groups weekly, organized to allow working men the ability to attend as many groups as possible. Additionally, each resident is provided weekly one-on-one counseling that helps them build and fulfill their own individualized treatment plan. The individuality and unique needs of each resident are respected under LADC1 supervision (the highest level of addiction counseling supervision). Much of the program is provided outside as men are encouraged from Day 2 to become engaged in outside recovery activities. We are not a mental health facility, but we are staffed by Christian counselors with a heart for helping men in need along their path to better living. We do not set up appointments for men. They do their own work. And while they do these activities they must also find and maintain employment. Once employed, each resident must pay a treatment fee of $125 per week.

This program is operated by Bay Cove at a site developed and owned by the Charlestown Recovery House Inc. Their Board consists of residents of Charlestown who have worked with the community and gathered local support for the past 11 years. The result is a beautiful, newly constructed state-of-the-art residential program designed to provide a safe and supportive environment which will promote recovery for the 25 men who live there. The Charlestown Recovery House provides residential treatment and recovery within a structured, therapeutic milieu. Our program is based on some 35 years of experience with treatment for alcohol and drug addiction which has helped thousands recover and stay sober and clean. It is founded on the 12 steps and group interaction, but it is also based on one on one, individual counseling. In order to quit drug and alcohol abuse, people need life altering changes and this occurs through education, understanding and implementation. Each resident is required to sign a pledge to refrain from using drugs or alcohol, and is expected to secure and maintain employment during his six month stay at CRH. During this time he will be prepared for eventual integration back into the community. We believe that everyone has value and that by following the principles behind Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, self-respect and dignity can be restored, and a healthy way of living will be achieved. Charlestown Recovery House is the first recovery home in Bay Cove’s Addiction Services and is a natural addition to its service continuum. Referrals come from TSS programs, shelters and the criminal justice system. We are generally at full capacity with an active wait list.

Lynn Community Health Center - Suboxone Treatment
Location: Lynn, MA - 01901
Contact Phone: (781) 780-4984
Website: http://www.lchcnet.org/
Description: People become addicted to opiates such as heroin or prescription pain medication because these drugs attach to receptors in the brain that stimulate pleasure. The body responds by reducing endorphins, natural hormones related to the same process. This reduction triggers the user to need more of the opiate, which over time creates both physical and psychological dependence on the drug. Suboxone is an “opioid receptor agonist-antagonist” that attaches to the same receptors in the brain that opiates do. It stimulates them enough to avert withdrawal symptoms, but not enough to produce the “high” that an opiate would produce. If the patient does use an opiate, there will be no effect because the receptors are already busy with Suboxone. This helps reduce cravings for the drug, making it easier for the patient to refrain from using. Suboxone treatment is unique because it can be used in the doctor’s office in a primary care setting. “Unfortunately there is a lot of stigma related to going to a clinic-based program, like Methadone, that requires daily on-site treatment,” says Dr. Robert-Schultheis. “Our program is office-based. The patient takes the medicine the first time in the doctor’s office, observed by their provider. After that, the daily dose can be self administered at home.” Once a patient begins taking the medication, they are screened weekly for illicit substance use via urine toxicology screens. If no evidence of other substances is found, they are reduced to bimonthly visits. After an extended period of abstinence and proven treatment program compliance, which includes therapeutic modalities such as group and individual psychotherapy, they are finally reduced to monthly maintenance visits. We encourage most patients to stay in the program for at least a year, often longer. “It takes a long time to recover from opiate addiction,” says Dr. Roberts-Schultheis. “Our patients usually have to find employment and stable housing. Most have to build a whole new social network away from a peer group that was supporting their destructive behavior as well as receive treatment and stabilize from any co-occurring mental health disorders. It is a very difficult process and we want to make sure they have the support they need.”

The Women’s View Program is vigilant in our commitment to treatment without barriers. Although Women’s View is not a family Program, we support all aspects of our client’s life, most importantly, relationships and family. Clients are helped to access benefits such as Food Stamps, Mass Health, and referrals for GEDs and to Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission for vocational training.
