Description: Substance Abuse Services provide care for individuals and their families who are experiencing substance abuse issues and who meet the criteria for outpatient services but do not require residential care. Services include individual and group counseling for clients with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, as well as for individuals affected by the substance abuse of a loved one. Services are individualized and designed to meet each client in multiple phases of recovery from early intervention, active recovery and relapse prevention. Sweetser also provides evaluation and treatment services to individuals involved with the state's Driver Education and Evaluation Program (DEEP). Therapeutic approaches employed can include: short term, brief therapy; family and affected others therapy; addiction; early stabilization; relapse groups; individual and group adolescent therapy. Substance abuse groups provide both therapeutic intervention as well as psycho-education about the addiction process and the affects on family members, co-workers and friends. All services are individualized and tailored to each clients' needs, including the discharge process. When the client, and/or family, and the clinician reach concensus that identified treatment goals have been satisfactorily met, discharge from services takes place. If any additional services are needed, the clinician will work to arrange those before ending treatment with the client.

Description: CAMP is the only licensed program in Maine that provides on-site living arrangements to minor children of mothers in residential treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. The unique 60-day program is housed at the Boulton Center for Women and Children in Windham. In order to be eligible, women must be pregnant, have children aged 5 or under, or working on family reunification. Crossroads’ CAMP utilizes a relational model of treatment that is both gender-responsive and trauma-informed. The highly credentialed staff focuses on an evidence-based curriculum that includes Seeking Safety, A Woman’s Way Through the Twelve Steps, motivational interviewing and relapse prevention therapy. Co-occurring mental health issues are addressed along with substance abuse. As part of its on-going effort to improve program performance and its obligations as a grantee of SAMHSA funding, Crossroads collects de-identified data on clients in CAMP who are pregnant or have children under the age of one. Our data shows that: The percentage of women who complete treatment is higher than the national average for similar programs; Women in the program made statistically significant clinical gains in addressing depression, strengthening relationships and increasing emotional stability; 95% of clients reported they would refer a friend or family member to the program for treatment; 98% of clients reported the program gave them tools to deal more effectively with daily problems; 98% of clients reported an improved understanding of good parenting skills; 7% of family members reported the program increased their understanding of their loved one’s substance abuse and mental health issues.

Programs run four hours per day, five days per week. Clients are usually in the program for four to six weeks. Description: The Milestone detoxification program provides a safe and medically supervised transition through the acute phase of withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs to men and women struggling with substance use issues. Maine residents are admitted regardless of their financial situation. The program is staffed by nurses and CNA’s 24-hours per day and overseen by a physician. Substance use counselors are available for education, intervention, case management, individual and group counseling, family counseling, and referral management. Lengths of stay vary according to the needs of the client and the time required for the successful completion of the detoxification process. Medical management allows for those individuals with co-occurring diagnoses to receive concurrent treatment for mental health issues. Milestone follows the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s “Patient Placement Criteria” for admission, continuing stay, and discharge criteria. Individuals completing the detoxification program may be referred to the Milestone Residential Treatment Program or other community-based aftercare treatment.

The multi-disciplinary team focuses on providing effective treatment interventions that support the individual and their family through a therapeutic relationship. The development of specific treatment goals is established to ensure optimal outcome supportive to the well being of the individual seeking services. Access, intervention, treatment and recovery are the watchwords of AMHC’s substance abuse program. AMHC seeks to enhance community awareness of the causes, problems, and solutions related to substance abuse through prevention, education, and consultation services. AMHC intervenes in the process of abuse and addiction with assessment, treatment, and support services that lead to change and recovery. AMHC offers a comprehensive array of substance abuse services that includes treatment for people with co-occuring disorders. In addition, AMHC provides referral and advocacy for individuals who need medically supervised detoxification.
