Description: In 1970 the western slope town of Granby was rocked by 4 suicides within a very short period of time. Residents and professionals decided that no more time could be lost in getting resources to vulnerable individuals, and an entity named ‘Colorado West’ was born. A private, not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 corporation, that once was known as Colorado West has been transformed into Mind Springs Health. Doors were first opened in 1972, primarily funded federally by the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) for the first 8 years until fiscal support for mental health shifted largely to individual states. Today, we are dependent upon revenue from client fees & insurance, federal, state and local contracts, foundation and corporate grants and the generosity of people like you. We provide mental wellness, behavioral change and substance abuse treatment & services to a 23,000 square mile area in northwestern Colorado, from the Continental Divide to the Utah state border, with offices in 13 cities and towns along the western slope. We also have the only psychiatric hospital between Denver and Salt Lake City, West Springs Hospital. 2005 was a landmark year for the organization as our TeleHealth network expanded to reach our entire 10-county area and the psychiatric hospital opened its doors in reaction to psychiatric units in Grand Junction, Montrose and Durango closing. With Colorado currently offering 40% less psychiatric beds per 100,000 population than the national average we pride ourselves in responding to the needs of our communities and our state. Although based in Grand Junction, West Springs Hospital serves the entire state as well as surrounding areas in Wyoming and Utah.

Our method of treatment at Harmony is designed to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and psychosocial aspects of the disease at our affordable rehab center. We believe our residential treatment program and other services such as our aftercare program and family program offer a strong foundation for long-term, sustained recovery at a lower cost. With guided help and through a process of on-going change, our clients find their way back to the responsible, productive, and caring individuals they know themselves to be. We know that chemical dependency is a chronic, progressive disease. However, it is a disease from which millions can and do recover. As with other chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or heart disease, this disease responds well when it is actively treated on a regular basis. By assuming that responsibility, chemically dependent people can keep their disease in remission and enjoy personal, rewarding lives in recovery beginning in our residential treatment program.

Contact Phone: (719) 276-1311
Website: http://adultyouthcounselingservices.com/
Description: Adult/Youth Counseling Services, Inc., is guided by a philosophy that can be summarized in two key words: Quality and Affordability. Drug addicts and alcoholics are perceived as having an illness with no desirable onset involving people and their relationships in their environment. Adult/Youth Counseling Services, Inc. believes that if substance abuse clients are educated and understand the consequences of its use and abuse, they will have the opportunity and avenue to make a change. In the absence of a timely and effective intervention treatment, the illness can progressively incapacitate and finally destroy its victims. For a treatment purpose, Chemical Dependency is defined as any degree (mild, moderate, or severe) of substance use which results in emotional or physical interpersonal dysfunction, or where a substance is used to any degree in order to maintain or improve one’s functioning. The achievement of a positive treatment outcome is related to development of motivation within the client to participate personally in his/her own rehabilitation. Adult/Youth Counseling Services, Inc., intention is to ensure that obstacles creating problems, for clients seeking help from the program, be minimized or eliminated. We believe that all human beings have a right to treatment.

Description: Parker Valley Hope, built in 1989, is located in the South Denver Metro area, in the town of Parker, Colorado. The location is a comfortable, ‘in the country’ setting; just one and one half miles out of the town of Parker. We are a free standing substance abuse facility with 10 detox beds and 40 dormitory beds. We have nursing staff around the clock helping our patients recover. We offer detox, residential and partial levels of care seven days per week. We also offer family support and education, believing that substance abuse has an overwhelming impact on everyone in the family. We have found that individuals whose families are involved in treatment have a higher sobriety rate. We are contracted with most major medical insurance companies and work diligently to offer payment plans for those who cannot afford the full cost of treatment up front. Our 12 Step based approach includes providing each patient with an individual counselor, group counselor, and chaplain. Our chaplains are nondenominational with a focus on spirituality and the concept of a higher power. The length of stay at Parker Valley Hope is variable and based upon each patient’s recovery needs. A typical day of addiction treatment at Parker Valley Hope includes psycho-educational and 12 Step discussion groups, individual and small group counseling, spiritual counseling, and opportunities to attend 12 Step meetings. Addiction treatment is highly individualized, as is our length of stay. Patients work with their individual counselor to develop a continuing care plan so that they continue to receive the treatment and support they need, long after leaving the residential treatment center. Valley Hope has always recognized the importance of family involvement in the process of recovery. An addiction can destroy families as much as it destroys the individuals who are admitting to addiction treatment. Parker Valley Hope offers family programming during the week and on the weekends. We also offer online family treatment which is a great resource for those family members who want to be involved, but may not be able to travel. Parker Valley Hope’s short distance to the Denver International Airport allows individuals to access addiction treatment from anywhere in the United States via our Fly to Recovery program. With the Valley Hope Fly to Recovery option, Valley Hope assists with flight arrangements and can also coordinate family involvement and continuing care services upon return home.

Description: Mental Health Partners began in 1962 as a clinic, received non-profit status in 1964, and was federally designated as a comprehensive community mental health center in 1971. Since then, we have expanded to meet the growing needs of the community in both counties, with locations in Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont. We are the only agency in Boulder and Broomfield counties that provides comprehensive psychiatric services to county residents regardless of their ability to pay. People served by Mental Health Partners generally do not have access to services in the private sector because they cannot afford to pay the significant fees, and most do not have insurance. Mental Health Partners has 24 hour emergency psychiatric services and outpatient offices for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and families. Many programs and services are available including school-based programs, substance abuse treatment, rape crisis counseling, advocacy, and education. Mental Health Partners offers bilingual/bicultural services and an in-house pharmacy. It is estimated, that of the 360,000 residents of Boulder and Broomfield counties, over 60,000 individuals suffer with a form of mental illness. This number is only compounded when family, friends, and co-workers are affected by the disabling conditions of a person who is struggling with a mental illness. Annually, Mental Health Partners serves over 18,000 individuals and our Emergency Psychiatric Services Team responds to 10,000 calls. We serve more women than men and thirty-six percent of our clients are multicultural.

Contact Phone: (719) 583-8222

Empowerment Program

Website: http://www.empowermentprogram.org
Description: The Empowerment Program opened its doors in 1986 in response to a growing number of homeless women, women living in poverty, sex workers, and women involved in the criminal justice system. Throughout the past twenty-eight years, Empowerment has continued it's efforts to decrease the number of women living in poverty who have significant barriers to self-sufficiency due to involvement in the criminal justice system, substance abuse and violence, by providing onsite education, employment training, counseling, supportive services and long-term follow-up support services. The successful delivery of self-sufficiency services helps many women decrease or completely stop their criminal activities. Many of the women are homeless, are living with HIV/AIDS or are at high risk for HIV infection, are actively using drugs, are living with serious mental illness that is treated or untreated, are survivors of abusive relationships, or any combination of the above. We have provided street and community outreach activities since 1987. Support and education groups are provided in metropolitan area county jails, halfway houses for women leaving prison, shelters for homeless women and drug treatment programs. From 1993 to 1997, we provided Prevention Case Management services, through a cooperative agreement with CDC, focusing on African-American, Latinas and other women in the Denver metropolitan area whose behaviors placed them at high risk for HIV infection. In 1999, we conducted a Community Identification Project, in conjunction with Denver Public Health, to learn more about HIV transmission and African-American women and Latinas who use crack/cocaine. In response to the closure of the only community-based anonymous test site in Denver in 1998, in 1999, we began offering free, anonymous HIV tests at our offices.

Website: http://www.mindspringshealth.org/

Description: We are dedicated to helping women overcome barriers to recovery and healing, and finding the tools they need to achieve positive change. The Women’s Recovery Center is a 90-day intensive drug and alcohol and transitional living program specializing in holistic recovery. It is the only ‘for women-only’ program on the western slope and one of few in Colorado where women may have their children with them during the residential treatment. We identify chemical dependency as a medical disease and our comprehensive approach addresses all aspects of the disease. Physical and mental health, emotional wellbeing, spiritual growth and social needs are all part of the program’s focus. Children ages 0-10 with no behavioral issues are eligible to stay with their mother. Our caring professionals utilize evidence-based therapeutic practices. The intensive and highly-structured program employs a variety of treatment approaches including Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the Matrix Model for methamphetamine addiction. As appropriate, spouses, partners, other children and/or family members are encouraged to participate in the treatment process. Women must meet the goals of their personal treatment plan to graduate, and may graduate early if appropriate or are offered additional time in the program if needed. Graduates of The Women’s Recovery Center are connected to other resources and health programs to promote continued recovery. We celebrate the joy and freedom gained by those who succeed and become productive and successful members of the community.
