Saint Anthony Foundation - Father Alfred Center
Location: San Francisco, CA - 94103
Contact Phone: (415) 241-8338
Website: http://www.stanthonysf.org/
Description: An estimated 60% of homeless people suffer from drug or alcohol addiction, to further complicate those problems, 50% have also have been dual diagnosed with mental illness. In the absence of shelter, family, or even sufficient food, this can easily create a cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness. St. Anthony Foundation’s Father Alfred Center breaks this cycle by providing the Bay Area’s only licensed no-fee residential recovery program to homeless men who are ready to build sober, stable futures. The program serves men from San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo counties. The Father Alfred Center’s year-long work-structured program empowers men with no income or resources with the tools to overcome addiction, and the support to establish productive and healthy lives. The multi-program access available through St. Anthony’s own services is rare in the field of recovery, and allows the speedy assessment and resolution of clients’ medical, legal, vocational and educational needs, most or all of which have been affected profoundly by their cycles of poverty and addiction. During the first six months men in the program prepare the meal and volunteer in St. Anthony Dining Room, critical to its daily operation, as well as immediately rebuilding their positive self-esteem and work habits. St. Anthony’s Tenderloin Tech Lab ensures men are 100% work ready within the first six months of the program with intensive computer classes, job search counseling and life skills tutoring. Through community partnerships men are employed in short and long-term positions, and upon completion of the program almost all graduates have stable employment and housing. Alumni participation and the aftercare component of Father Alfred Center are supports that help ensure long-term success of graduates. Regular activities engaging graduates and current participants serve as powerful, living reminders to men in the program that long-term recovery is real and attainable.
