Chrysalis was developed in 1980 and is located in Alameda County. There are facts that prove that women are using and abusing more frequently now than they were before. They are dying from drugs overdoses more frequently than men and are using drugs to their own detriment. Many women are being incarcerated for substance use, sales, and possessions. Their children are often sent to long-term foster care and adopted out to families that care for them. Previously, many women hid their problems from society. However, women’s rates of dual addiction are much greater than those of men. Many women turn to drugs for security, and with the hope of Chrysalis, may overcome these problems. Chrysalis believes that the recovery of female alcoholic addicts involves the assessment, definition, and satisfaction of their own needs. At Chrysalis, they try to satisfy the needs of women in other ways that do not involve drugs and alcohol.
